Educational Technology Specialist

Location: Lewis and Clark College

 

 

Job Purpose

The Educational Technology Specialist for the Graduate School of Education & Counseling provides consultation services, training, and support to faculty, staff and students in the effective use of technology to meet teaching, research, learning and administrative goals and objectives. Oversees daily operation of educational technology and A/V equipment used in physical and virtual classrooms at the Graduate School of Education & Counseling Campus and provides technical advice and expertise in the evaluation, purchase, upgrade and maintenance of technology and equipment to meet individual, departmental or divisional needs. Serves as the point person for resolving issues as they arise, both independently and collaboratively. Manages and directs teams of student workers to assist in daily operations of classroom technology. Through this work, the Educational Technologist assists in providing services in support of the vision and mission of the Graduate School of Education & Counseling.

What You'll Do

Operational Support & System Administration (40%):

  • Oversees daily operation of educational technology and A/V equipment used in physical and virtual classrooms at the Graduate School of Education & Counseling. This includes providing direct end-user support. 

  • Organize and coordinate resources necessary to provide this support including programming equipment, monitoring equipment, identifying, troubleshooting and analyzing operational problems, and performing repairs and preventive maintenance on a regular and ongoing basis.

  • Serves as the highest level of problem escalation for teaching and learning tools. Works with end-users, technical support staff and vendors to resolve unique and complex issues.

  • Performs admin-level support on educational technology platforms such as the Learning Management System (LMS) and classroom recording systems including researching and testing new features and functionality, assisting with updates/upgrades, tracking data analytics and compiling reports.

  • Authors and maintains technical documentation and educational resources.

  • Organizes and coordinates A/V support for on-campus Graduate School events with the Conference and Events office.  

 

Consult and Design (25%):

  • Performs needs analysis, designs, develops, reviews, and tests complex A/V systems for the Graduate School of Education & Counseling classrooms. 

  • Assists, advises, and trains faculty and staff in the theory and practice of designing, developing, delivering, and learning in courses using technology.

  • Collaborates with program administrators to identify, analyze, deploy, and evaluate specialized technology students must use to meet program or certification requirements.

  • Collaborates with faculty and students to identify, analyze, explore and meet technology needs necessary to accomplish specific teaching and learning objectives.

  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to evaluate and implement emerging educational technologies.

 

Leadership and Supervision (15%):

  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate student workers in performing operational tasks as well as specific projects.

  • Serve on committees and task forces, as required. Participate in regional and national associations.

  • Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of team mission, vision, and strategic work plan.

 

Subject Matter Expertise (10%):

  • Researches and evaluates emerging technologies in classroom technology and other areas of expertise. Is aware of the uses of and their impact on student learning outcomes. Makes recommendations on new technology purchases.

  • Maintains deep knowledge of current and emerging educational technology trends, best practices, and issues. Is aware of current use of available educational technologies by students, faculty, and staff. Makes recommendations on improvements.

  • Continually acquires new knowledge and skills to enhance professional performance in areas of technical responsibility

  • Provide leadership, training, and support to other technologists in operation of AV and classroom technology and other educational technology platforms exclusively used at the Graduate School of Education & Counseling.

 

Community Outreach & Training (10% of the time):

  • Devise and provide training opportunities appropriate to faculty and students with a range of technological competencies through individual consultation, coaching, workshops, web resources, videos, short guest teaching modules, and other means deemed appropriate. Authors documentation in support of such projects.

  • Assists Graduate School program administrators with the development and implementation of program-specific communications.

  • Assists with IT communications, reports, and formal presentations.

  • Coordinates outreach and training events and programs.

  • Develops and maintains relationships necessary to increase acceptance and use of educational technologies by new or inexperienced faculty and students.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of outreach and training strategies to meet department and team strategic goals.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • 4 years of relevant experience supporting various digital platforms and operating systems.

  • Experience in providing end user support and troubleshooting A/V hardware in an academic setting.

  • Experience creating digital media and using visual presentation software and hardware.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a service-oriented environment with the ability to assess competing priorities

  • Experience in using, supporting, and managing video conference software such as Zoom.

  • Experience using, supporting, and teaching others to use Google Workspace applications.

  • Experience with both Windows and Macintosh hardware, OS, and software.

  • Ability to carry out responsibilities in alignment with the social justice mission of the Graduate School.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Master's degree

  • Experience in successfully integrating technology in teaching at the college level.

  • Experience supervising student employees in delivering tech support in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in supporting and teaching faculty and students to use Moodle or other LMS.

  • Experience in supporting faculty and students with Zoom or other Video Conferencing tools.

  • Experience using, supporting, and teaching others to use Google Workspace applications.

  • Experience with publication production and or/graphic design, including contributing content directly to a website.

 

Work Schedule

  • 37.5 hours per week

Pay Rate

  • LCCSSA Grade 17, Step F

  • $30.36 per hour

 

Physical Requirements

  • Danger of injury or probability of physical harm associated with the job is minimal.

  • Moderate amount of lifting of light weight (up to 15 lbs.) to medium weight (15 to 35 lbs.), climbing or physically tiring work
