This series brings together a variety of our members to discuss current issues and how they're impacting their everyday workload. 

CCUMC COVID-19 Round Table: Impact on Higher Ed Technology Builds (May 2020)

Media technology managers, manufacturers and integrators from around the country gathered to discuss how they are handling the impact COVID-19 is having on higher education technology builds. Corey Schaffer (QSC) moderated a discussion with Matt Decker (Carleton College), Willie Franklin (Otterbein University), Dave Ewing (Diversified), Chris Kolavo (Computer Comforts), and Mark McCallister (University of Florida). 

From the POV of a manufacturer: 

  • What is the availability of product this summer? 
  • Has the manufacturing process been delayed or disrupted? 
  • How is the loss of InfoComm affected you? 
  • Are new products being delayed?
  • What steps have you taken to help and stay in contact with your customers?

From the POV of an integrator: 

  • Are you able to complete installs in a timely manner? 
  • Have contracts been cancelled?
  • Has your workforce been impacted?

From the POV of higher education: 

  • How has you install schedule been affected?
  • Has your budget been impacted?
  • Are your resources (time, personnel, attention) being diverted to other school needs?



COVID-19 Follow-Up - One Month Later (April 2020)

Media technology managers and CCUMC members from around the country gathered to discuss how they are handling the fluid nature of course and technology support at their colleges. Jim Spencer (University of Notre Dame) moderated a discussion with Raul Burriel (Oregon State University), Scott Doyle (Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne), Kevin Jahnke (University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee), James McGookey (Indiana University), Pedro Monroy (Yale University), and Brian Shanks (Texas State University)

Topics include:

Who’s on campus, who is remote, and how long is that currently expected to continue?

What has changed the most from when you started responding to the crisis and where you are now?

How have your faculty and students responded to these changes?

Have all of your ‘services’ (Zoom, Canvas, etc.) been reliable?

What have you been asked to help with that you wouldn’t have anticipated? Example: labs, exams, etc.
