2014 Conference - The Media Spaces Life Cycle

About this session:

This panel discussion will discuss the planning, design, and implementation of new media spaces such as media commons, digital media studios, multimedia labs, etc. by gathering perspectives from people at different stages in the life cycle of such spaces.

About the presenters:

Bobby Hollandsworth, Clemson University

Bobby Hollandsworth is the Learning Commons Coordinator, Business Reference Librarian, and RefWorks Administrator at RM Cooper Library on the campus of Clemson University. He serves as the library liaison to the departments of Economics, Finance, Agribusiness, and Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management. He has over fifteen years of experience as a business reference librarian. He has worked in public and academic libraries along with being a quality assurance analyst and database designer at Ovid Technologies. He has a bachelor of science degree in Communications from Appalachian State University, Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Master’s of Professional Communication from Westminster College. 

Andy Horbal, University of Maryland

Andy Horbal is the Media Resources Librarian and library liaison to the Film Studies Program at the University of Maryland. His professional interests include copyright and intellectual property issues, multimedia production support in libraries, and the changing discovery, distribution, and use patterns of audiovisual resources in the digital age.

Monique Threatt, Indiana University

Monique Threatt is an Associate Librarian, and Head of Media & Reserve Services in the Herman B Wells Library on the Indiana University-Bloomington campus.  She is both the media librarian for Media Services with additional duties as a reference librarian in the Wells Library Scholars’ Commons.  She is instrumental in the latest architectural designs to renovate the current media space.  She oversees the delivery of media for classroom support to all IU regional campuses, and processes all print reserve for the Wells Library.  She provides instructional training sessions on how to incorporate media in teaching and learning to all faculty, researchers, and students.  She has over 20 year experience as a film archivist, and media librarian.  She received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from Indiana University-Bloomington.

Debra Mandel, Northeastern University

Debra Mandel is Acting Associate Dean of User Services at Northeastern University Libraries, where she has worked for  24 years.  She co-manages the Digital Media Commons and heads the audio, video and media creation studios. Debra also serves as  collection manager and liaison for Music and Media Screen Studies.  Debra received her Masters in Library Science from Simmons College and a CAGS in Educational Technology from Boston University.
