Kaltura Admin (Learning Platform Administrator and Technologist)

Location: Office of Information Technology, Rice University

Position summary:

      • The Learning Platform Administrator and Technologist will administer our campus media management system (Kaltura) and manage our Canvas LTI (learning tool interoperability) integrations, feeds and customizations. This position will be responsible for all aspects of LTI integration and will work closely with faculty and the Teaching & Scholarly Learning team to identify new technologies and campus solutions. The position will be considered for remote work arrangements.
      • The ideal candidate will have experience administering a Campus video management system, working knowledge of LTIs and experience working with faculty in a university setting.
      • Integrates new and existing academic technologies to further instructional goals
      • Administer Campus Video Management System (Kaltura)
      • Review and Integrate new learning technologies via LTI into the Campus LMS (Canvas) ecosystem
      • Stays abreast of educational technology research and participates in academic conferences
      • Performs project management and documentation tasks as needed to accomplish these goals
      • Assess the effectiveness of instructional technologies
      • Performs all other duties as assigned
      • Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications: 
      • Bachelor’s Degree
      • Two years of related experience in each of the following:
        • Supporting educational technologies applications (in particular media management systems)
        • Integrating technology in teaching and learning ecosystems
        • Working with APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability) tools
      • Substitutions
        • No substitutions for education or experience allowed.
      • Skills Required
        • Current knowledge of the latest educational technology software (LMS systems, video management such as Canvas and Kaltura)
        • Ability to plan, design, develop, and evaluate engaging multimedia learning / training objects
        • Ability to communicate effectively (written, interpersonal, verbal) with faculty and staff members at all levels of the organization
        • Commitment to providing outstanding service and support to students, faculty, and staff
        • Strong capability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
        • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn new technologies quickly
        • Integration of new and existing academic technologies within the LMS environment
        • Knowledge of instructional design methodologies, pedagogical issues, and best practices for classroom, online and hybrid learning


    • Experience
      • Three years relevant experience in instructional technology and integration
    • Skills
      • Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications
      • Some proficiency in widely used programming languages and Web frameworks, such as JavaScript, HTML, JSON, CSS, XML, REST APIs, and/or GraphQL
