Matthew Silverman

 President-Elect Candidate - James Pierret, Carleton College

As a member of the Presentation, Events, and Production Support (PEPS) team at Carleton, Jim wears many hats. His primary responsibility is the project management of audio visual installation throughout campus, such as overseeing the commissioning of Carleton’s new Music and Performance Commons, which was completed this fall, and managing the AV aspects of the construction of a new science center addition currently underway. He also serves as the lead technician for the maintenance of the equipment in the 180 rooms (Classrooms, labs, conference rooms, dance studios, etc.) with installed presentation technologies. He also works with event setups, the loaner pool, and digital signage, as well as being the campus AMX programmer.

He earned a BS in Psychology from St. John’s University in Minnesota, a BA in Geography from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Minnesota State University – Mankato. He has been at Carleton since 1996 after serving a year on a MSU-M faculty after completing his masters
STATEMENT OF INTEREST: I am interested in serving as President-Elect of CCUMC because I would like to continue to give back to this great organization. Throughout my career in media, CCUMC has been a great resource for information, networking, collaboration, commiseration, and inspiration. As president, I want to continue the efforts of those before me to ensure that CCUMC stays the number one professional organization for college and university media and AV professionals.

I became a member and attended my first CCUMC conference in 1998 at Santa Cruz. Since then I have attended 15 other conferences including this year’s at Notre Dame. I look forward to the conference every year. I have presented four times and was a member of two different panel discussions. I served two terms as a director on the CCUMC Board. While on the board, I was chair of the Constitution and Bylaws task force. I also serve as the Chair of the Small Institutions Interest Group, I was a member of the Classroom Design Award task force, and I served a term on the Membership Committee.

Secretary - Anthony Helm, Dartmouth College

Anthony Helm is Head of Digital Media and Library Technologies in the Dartmouth College Library, leading the Jones Media Center and the Digital Library Technologies Group (a team of developers and system administrators responsible for the library’s technical infrastructure). Prior to this position, he served as Director of the Arts & Humanities Resource Center at Dartmouth, a facility providing pedagogical and technical support for faculty. Before moving to northern New England, Anthony was an Academic Technology Coordinator at Clark University in Massachusetts, and at Minnesota State University – Akita in Japan. His current interests are digital signage, gaming in the curriculum, and the expanded role of students as media creators. Outside of the academy, he has served on the boards of the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District in Spencer,
Massachusetts, and the Old Church Theater in Bradford, Vermont, where he was Secretary. He is active in local theater and in Harmony Night, a community a cappella chorus. Anthony holds a B.A. in Television/Radio from Southern Methodist University and an M.A. in Japanese from the University of Texas at Austin.

STATEMENT OF INTEREST: Working in higher education for over twenty years, I have had many opportunities to participate in a variety of professional organizations. The CCUMC is one of only two where I felt like I was part of a professional family from the first experience—a feeling that is reaffirmed at each annual conference. I'm running for the position of Secretary in order to give back to the organization. I served on the Government Regulation and Public Policy Committee from 2012-2015 and co-presented the CCUMC webinar “Copyright Updates for the Digital Age” in February 2014. I have presented at each of the past three conferences and led the Special Interest Group discussions on Instructional Design issues at each of those conference. While I am certain that there is still much for me to learn from peers in the organization, I feel that professionally I am at a stage in my career that I can contribute meaningfully to the organization and serve responsibly in a leadership role. I look forward to meeting more members and welcoming new members into the fold as we work to carry out the mission of the CCUMC for years to come.

Matthew Silverman, Crestron Electronics

Matthew Silverman is a R&D Program Manager with Crestron Electronics, Inc. with over 20 years of experience in IT and AV supporting the Education, Corporate and Government environments. At Crestron, Matthew is the responsible for development of Education Market strategy for product
development and acts as product manager for numerous software products.
Prior to joining Crestron, he worked as Project Manager and Technology Manager for George Mason University. He has served as a past chair of the InfoComm Standards Committee and as the moderator for the ANSI/INFOCOMM 10:2013: Audiovisual Systems Performance Verification Standard. Matthew has presented numerous workshops at higher education and AV/IT events on topics including: Creating an Enterprise AV Architecture for Higher Education; Scaling from 40 to 170 Classrooms; Designing Classrooms in the Digital Age; and Strategic Application of AV Assessment and Standards in Learning Spaces.

STATEMENT OF INTEREST: I have been active with CCUMC since 2011 both as institutional member and now as a corporate member. In that time, I’ve been able to participate in many conferences, online events and listserv discussion which have lead to great professional contacts as well as many new friends. I’ve previously participated on the professional development committee and assisted both with development of webinars and as well as presenting both webinars, workshops and sessions at CCUMC events. The membership of CCUMC has always energized me by the ability to do new things and create inventive solutions and I would look forward being part of helping guide that journey. I see being a member of the board as an opportunity to get deeper involved with the growth of the organization, being able to provide my organizational resources where needed, and be able to give back to the organization in a volunteer capacity.
