Workshop on Writing Effective Copyright Policies at Annual Conference

Posted By Anthony Helm, Friday, November 14, 2014

The CCUMC offered a four-hour workshop as a pre-conference event at the 2014 CCUMC Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon. The event, "CopyWrites: Crafting Successful AV Copyright Policies for Your Institution," focused on supporting the participants’ ability to write internal policies and procedures for activities that require a high degree of copyright consideration. The workshop was lead by Anthony Helm, of Dartmouth College, Jane Hutchison, of William Paterson University, Lindley Shedd, of The University of Alabama, and Kim Stanton, of The University of North Texas. After covering some familiar background on U.S. Copyright Law and a review of some key areas to consider for core institutional policies, the the workshop played out as an active conversation between presenters and participants and focused on issues around developing copyright policies to address the preservation of at‐risk AV materials, streaming commercial content, and faculty scholarship.

Feedback from participants was very positive, so the presenters are looking into building on the workshop and conversation. Watch this site for future updates!
