Pre-Conference Workshops November 2, 2016
"Project Management for AV"
This course presents proven management tools to plan, execute, and successfully complete an AV project. Drawn from the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), this course identifies the project metrics to be captured, measured, and analyzed within typical AV industry methodology. Throughout the life of the project determining requirements and validating assumptions is critical to keeping the project on track, using tools including scope statements, work breakdown structures, logic networks, and risk assessment.

"Leveraging AV Technology via AV-USB Bridging to Enhance Collaboration in Classrooms"
This workshop will focus on solutions that enable better utilization of laptops to improve collaboration within the classroom environment while keeping it simple, easy and effective. Improve the flexibility and ease of use to pull in a remote user or users and fully integrate with the classroom technology ecosystem reliably and cost effectively. We will develop a template classroom AV design together as a group, and then look at ways the solutions can be integrated into the design to enable seamless integration of an instructor’s laptop into an educational environment’s AV system.

Do you sometimes find that every vendor has a different practice of implementing systems? Wonder how to hold vendors accountable for their work? There are standards to help you do just that. Did you know there’s a standard for something as simple (but critical) as AV cable labeling? This interactive workshop brings AV standards and best practices to life as it guides you through some performance and management tools designed to bring consistency to your AV projects by putting everyone on the same page. Learn about how to reduce risk and manage expectations with tools that have already been vetted for you. We want to help you get your project done-done while enhancing the user experience. There will be demonstrations and gear.
Don’t know what your AV system contrast or image size should really be? You’ll learn how to figure it out from the new standard. Have you seen the standard for AV symbols? We’re bringing it. This workshop has been tailored specifically for technology managers, half general information and half technical, with hands-on opportunities and simple tips, like how to get the most out of a standard and how standards support your budget. It will show university staff responsible for AV projects how to leverage standards and best practices to consistently improve the project life cycle. We will review current AV standards, their specific applications, and try some of them out during the workshop.
Each attendee will receive two free standards.
