About this session:
Since 2008, York College of Pennsylvania has experienced tremendous growth and change in academic technology. There have been seven major building construction projects, as well as dozens of individual room installations. There is one full-time AV Specialist to manage 160+ smart classrooms, 50+ public display televisions, digital signage and AV for special events. In this session, I will explore how I manage academic technology through system design, installation, project management and faculty feedback. I will discuss the removal of VHS, handling BYOD and transitioning from analog to digital AV technologies. During the change process for the campus, there have been many obstacles that were overcome by budgeting, engaging in faculty collaboration and gaining apport from senior administration
About the presenter:
Randall Janney, York College of Pennsylvania
Randall Janney moved to York, Pennsylvania in 2004 to study Mass Communications at York College of Pennsylvania. He obtained an internship in York College’s I.T. Department his Junior year working as an AV Technician. Upon graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications and a Minor in Film Studies he was hired as the lead Audio/Video Administrator in the I.T. Department. His primary responsibility is to design, install, maintain, and repair over 160 smart classrooms on York College’s campus.
In 2012 Randall was invited to Extron’s headquarters where he completed courses in ”Control Systems for Higher Education” and “Audio Visual Technologies for Higher Education.” Randall also successfully completed training to become a certified Extron AV Associate in 2012. Over the past few years Randall has expanded his responsibilities to include digital signage, campus televisions, video conferencing, and audio/video support of special events.
