On-Line Multimedia Specialist

Audio Visual Technician

Position Summary: This position reports to the Audio-Visual Manager, and has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2013. The Audio-Visual Technician coordinates and engineers performances in the new Performing Arts Building, opening in fall 2013, and in Kaul Auditorium. A typical workweek is Thursday through Monday, but days and hours may vary.

Instructional Designer

Position Description: The Instructional Designer will be primarily responsible in providing targeted instructional support to faculty, will work with faculty, other campus units, and the Academic Technology service teams to develop comprehensive strategies for applying technology in teaching. The position will enable the expansion of an instructional technology support program for faculty that will provide in depth knowledge of complex instructional applications, such as a course management system, and how the use of the application can support teaching and learning. This position will work closely with course technologies support staff to identify and deploy appropriate technology for teaching and learning. Collaborates with staff to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching, including application assessment, pedagogy, deployment methodologies, and integration strategies.
Instructional Design and Consulting:
- Develop appropriate strategies for implementing information technology across a broad range of academic programs and initiatives.
- Track and analyze technology needs by examining faculty/staff satisfaction levels
- Collaborate with clients to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching, including application assessment, pedagogy, deployment methodologies, integration strategies, etc.

Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to obtain and convey service information to people of varying levels of technical knowledge and responsibility is essential. Experience consulting with faculty-instructors on instructional technology issues and to recommend appropriate technology solutions is required. Knowledge of current educational technology practices, theories, and emerging trends and technologies that support teaching and learning. Ability to identify-recommend appropriate instructional technologies – not necessarily create or implement them. Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic, deadline driven, complex, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities. Able to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and highly responsive to requests is required. Highly experienced and proficient with common desktop applications and learning technologies, such as presentation, multi-media and web technologies.

- Master’s degree preferred.
College teaching experience preferred. Experience in developing multi-media and web solutions for teaching.

AV System Integrator

Position Description: The AV System Integrator (AVSI) will help usher a new audio-visual room project from conception to completion and beyond. They will assist the Director of EdComm in developing executable audio-visual system designs for the university.
The AVSI will meet with interested parties on campus, council them on available and supportable systems, develop equipment sheets and line diagrams, coordinate quotes from outside vendors, work with the department on generating purchase orders for the equipment on the state purchasing system, coordinate with physical facilities to schedule the project, and coordinate with the installation side of EdComm on the project. They will also devote time to research and development to ensure new and emerging technologies are brought to campus appropriately.
The AVSI will also work in the Instructional Support Technicians office installing and maintaining AV equipment across campus. The AVSI will help users of these systems to operate them. The AVSI will troubleshoot AV systems, and coordinate repairs with vendors and manufacturers.

Instructional Support Technician

Position Description: This new position will manage a core of five staff to re-envision a library department (formerly Media and Computer Services) to focus on new media-on-demand access to services and content anytime, anywhere, on any digital device. Informing the work of the Libraries Systems and Web and Application Development Services Departments, the New Media Department will provide an interface between user needs and expectations and the Libraries' physical technology and virtual presence.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Education, the Head of New Media will collaborate across divisions to help implement the Libraries' public technology vision through services, public spaces, and web presence. Responsibilities include providing leadership on website usability and content; keeping current with best practices for implementing new technology in support of digital and media literacy; developing and coordinating workshops and programs to educate Libraries staff and users about technology within the public computing environment; investigating methodologies and best practices for creating, promoting, and disseminating student-authored content; and conducting ongoing assessments related to New Media's programming to assist in formulating policy and determining strategic directions. The Head of New Media will work with others to explore and evaluate technology solutions to meet user and organizational needs and experiment with and develop technologies and their applications for library services. The Head of New Media will also work with Collection Management staff to identify optimal ways for discovery, access, and use of media collections and will serve as the Libraries' liaison to campus entities, such as the Disability Resource Center, the Office of Information Technology (WebCampus and Instructional Technology Services units) and Online Education. It will be important for the Head of New Media to collaborate with fellow department heads in leading the creation of programs and services for the UNLV community that will advance the research enterprise and foster a climate of scholarly inquiry and student achievement while continuously enhancing the user experience.
As a tenure-track library faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively with others; engage in scholarly activities; and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Libraries and University standards for promotion and tenure.
