Interesting Copyright Battle Brewing Over UFO Documents

Motherboard reports on an interesting copyright conflict developing between UFO enthusiast John Greenwald and, of all sites, Ancestry.com, over the re-use of digitized versions of copyright-free content.

This should be an interesting one to follow, especially if the question is, "Does simple digitization alone transform an object somehow from public domain to protected"? Or, the other angle Ancestry.com is exploring, "Does re-use of a digitized public domain object count as theft"?
